[SenatorObama-PleaseVoteAgainstFISA] Daily E-mail Blast!
Wanted - Your ideas for the Netroots platform!
Dear Friend,
Are you concerned about our country's addiction to oil? Or about getting universal healthcare passed? This is your chance to express what you think our national policies should be!
One of our goals at Netroots Nation is to take ideas from our community, match them with the right technology, and empower you to act. In Austin, we provided a way for you to contribute to a collaborative Netroots platform. The response was fantastic, but we still need your voice.
We need your help to ensure that all the planks are strong, and that the platform accurately reflects our collective views. Contribute your ideas at netrootsplatform.org.
The final platform will be submitted through Obama's "Listening to America" process in which the campaign is encouraging supporters to jointly craft platform planks. Our impact will depend on the process being completely democratic and participatory, and on engaging as many members of the Netroots as possible.
Curious? Skeptical? Here's an excerpt of the current "general principles" plank:
"As progressive women and men living in the United States of America, we believe that the American dream means extending equality of opportunity to every American and working to narrow the gap between opportunity and outcome. We see no reason why the outcome of any American's pursuit of happiness should be economic destitution caused by unemployment, inflation, high energy costs, lack of health care, or any of the other myriad problems facing everyday Americans today. America can do better, and as progressives we pledge ourselves to working for greater opportunities and better outcomes for all Americans."
Read the rest at netrootsplatform.org.
To craft a political platform together, democratically, we're using MixedInk's unique collaborative writing tool. It works kind of like a blog's diary submission and recommendation system, only you can borrow other people's words and ideas to create the best possible plank. From the economy to healthcare to the environment, you'll have a chance to contribute new ideas, edit existing planks, remix the group's best ideas to form new versions, and rate what others have written to help choose the final version.
By fusing our voices together and producing a precise policy vision that reflects our collective viewpoints, our community can better influence the official Democratic platform.
Be sure to contribute your ideas at netrootsplatform.org.
In solidarity,
The Netroots Nation Team

Please help: Impeachment has made Wexler a target.
I need your help:
My strong and vocal stands in favor of impeaching President Bush and Vice President Cheney have made me a target. I am now under siege by the right wing, who are working hard to defeat me and silence the causes that we believe in.
In the eyes of the right wing, I am seen, along with Rep. Kucinich, as one of the symbols of the impeachment fight. They believe that if they defeat me – they defeat our cause.
For the last week, I’ve been relentlessly targeted by ultra-conservative radio and television hosts, as well as my local media. It has taken a toll. Now more than ever, I need your support to help me stay in Congress to represent your voice in Washington.
Please click here to donate to my re-election campaign.
I am pleased to report that just this week we have made real progress in our fight for accountability for this rogue Administration. Just yesterday a federal court ruled against President Bush's bogus executive privilege claims and ordered Harriet Miers and Josh Bolten to testify. In addition, this week the Judiciary Committee voted to hold Karl Rove in contempt for his refusal to testify.
I will make you this promise: No matter who criticizes me, I will continue to aggressively push for genuine accountability for this White House – including inherent contempt for Karl Rove, Josh Bolten, Harriet Miers and all of the renegade Bush officials if they do not immediately cooperate.
With your contribution today (click here) you can ensure that I will return to Congress and never back down from the causes in which we believe.
I have been one of the few lonely voices in Congress to demand accountability and now I am paying a price. The truth is I would rather lose my election than back down. But we will win if we stand together, and your contribution today will send a strong message to the right wing that our movement will not be intimidated.
Click here to donate and help me send a message to the right wing.
It’s no coincidence that these attacks are increasing as I continue my outspoken stances, and Election Day approaches.
Right now, I am facing my most difficult re-election ever. While I rely on people like you to support my campaign – both of my wealthy opponents are spending their own personal money to fund their campaigns. One opponent has promised to spend a million dollars to defeat me. Another opponent has ridiculed my stance on impeachment and called for me to be impeached and removed from office.
I need your help: please click here to donate today. From the beginning of my work on impeachment, I have been dipping into my re-election fund to help pay the significant costs of what has been a national campaign to promote impeachment. Some of you have previously donated to help keep this outreach alive, and for that, I’m thankful. I will continue to promote this cause using my campaign resources.
Now, the right wing is fueling the campaigns against me: Newspapers are reporting that my Republican opponent is seeing a major spike in contributions. We must match his supporters dollar for dollar. If you're in a position to contribute, please help us win this race (click here to donate).
If not, but you know someone who might want to, please spread the word by forwarding this email and posting it on blogs.
Every two years, Americans get to decide who represents them. Whether I'm your representative or not, I hope you know I will continue to fight to protect our Constitution.
Regardless of whether you can support me financially at this time or not, please know that I have been inspired by your hard work, words of encouragement, and unflagging commitment for our shared causes.
Your friend,
Congressman Robert Wexler

Take Action: Save the Internet
The Federal Communications Commission has voted to punish Comcast for violating Net Neutrality and blocking your right to do what you want on the Internet. This precedent-setting victory sends a powerful message to phone and cable companies that blocking access to the Internet will not be tolerated from this time forward.
With your help today, by signing this letter and forwarding it to friends, we can push our ranks to more than 2 million and stop Internet blocking and censorship once and for all.
Countless Americans rely upon an open Internet in their daily lives. Our elected leaders must protect our basic right to communicate from those who want to take it from us. Please join with me and 2 million others to demand that Congress protect the free-flowing Internet from blocking, censorship and discrimination by phone and cable companies.
This is not an issue of left against right but of right over wrong. To allow companies to interfere with our Internet access is a stark violation of the principles of openness and nondiscrimination that have been the bedrock of U.S. communications policy for more than 70 years. It's up to Congress to protect innovation, free speech and democracy on the Internet.
Sign the "Six Principles for Change"
Add your name.Wal-Mart has a great opportunity to work with us to help improve the lives of so many Americans who face an economic and health care crisis every day, everywhere in America. The American people want to know, will Wal-Mart do what is right for America or will Wal-Mart lead a race to the bottom.
We believe now is the time for Wal-Mart to address the serious issues facing its 1.3 million workers, their families, our communities and our country by agreeing to the following “six principles for change.”
- Living Wage. Pay all Wal-Mart workers a fair living wage so they can support their families.
- Affordable Health Care. Provide all workers comprehensive, affordable health insurance coverage so they can care for their families and no longer be forced to rely on taxpayer-funded public health care.
- End Discrimination. Ensure equal opportunity and equal pay for women and people of color in your workforce at all levels through a stringent and independent monitoring process.
- Zero Tolerance on Child Labor. Adopt a zero tolerance policy and institute an independent monitoring program to stop the exploitation of child labor in the United States and abroad.
- Buy American. Establish a “Buy America” program that annually increases the percentage of “Made in America” goods purchased by Wal-Mart so as to help protect American jobs.
- Respect Communities. Work with local communities to effectively address Wal-Mart’s negative impact on issues like traffic, sprawl, the environment, and local businesses.
Co-Sponsor Health Care Legislation in your state
Become a Citizen Co-Sponsor of “Fair Share for Health Care” Reform in your stateOn Thursday, January 12, the Maryland House and Senate voted to override Governor Ehrlich’s veto of the “Fair Share Health Care” bill. This vote makes sure Maryland will stay immune from the Wal-Mart health care crisis. The vote expands health care for workers, stops large, profitable companies from shifting their health care costs onto taxpayers, and makes sure all large, profitable employers pay their fair share for health care. Before passage of this bill, Wal-Mart was the only large, profitable company in Maryland not to pay its fair share for health care. No wonder nationally so many of Wal-Mart's employees have to rely on taxpayer funded public assistance for health care. And most disturbingly, nearly 1 out of every 2 children of Wal-Mart workers has no health insurance or is forced onto a public program.
Now, you have the power to hold corporations responsible for their actions by making sure every large, profitable employer pays its fair share for health care. Sign up today to become a citizen co-sponsor to help introduce Fair Share Health Care in your state. We should be saying yes to health care for working families and their children, and we should be saying no to subsidies for multi-billion dollar corporations.
Wal-Mart aggressively lobbied against Fair Share for Health Care in Maryland, hiring over a dozen lobbyists in Maryland alone. But, no amount of money could deny the will of the people and Fair Share is now the law in the state of Maryland.
Now, we need your help. Let's build on this momentum and introduce Fair Share Health Care in every state in America. Sign up to be a citizen co-sponsor in your state today.

Platforms Against Poverty

As a proud American, I urge you to make ending extreme poverty and global disease in the developing world a core part of your 2008 platform by including commitments to:
- Prevent and treat HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria and improve basic health services, particularly for mothers and young children.
- Provide access to quality primary education for 72 million out-of-school children with a special emphasis on girls.
- Double our poverty-focused development assistance by 2012 and improve quality and effectiveness by focusing on results, partnership and coordination.

- Ensure access to clean water, basic sanitation and sufficient food supplies.
